Ahead of World Mental Health Day on 10th October, this issue of Clarity Digest highlights findings from five recent publications that shed light on the growing mental health crisis in the UK. Drawing on evidence from The Health Foundation, Age UK, the BMA, PMHIC and The Lancet Public Health, the reports reveal deepening inequalities and systemic challenges.

Mental health outcomes are shaped by poverty, housing, discrimination and access to care. Groups most affected include children and young people, Black Caribbean older adults, people in deprived areas, men and frontline health workers.

Key issues include:

  • Emotional support and youth mental health
  • Racial disparities in ageing
  • Workforce pressures and burnout
  • Structural gaps in men’s mental health
  • System-wide underfunding and fragmentation

What needs to change?

  • Embed mental health in all policies
  • Invest in prevention and early support
  • Use data to drive equity
  • Support and retain the workforce
  • Co-produce services with communities

Additional Resources

This issue also includes a curated selection of recent publications and podcasts exploring key themes in health and care - from service redesign and transformation to artificial intelligence and population health. These resources offer timely insights to help sector leaders stay informed, inspired and equipped to drive meaningful change.
